Scholarships

Strings by the Sea, August 2-6, 2010

Partial Tuition Work Scholarship
Need-based partial tuition work scholarships, covering up to a maximum of 50% of the camp tuition, are available through Strings by the Sea for those students who would not be able to attend Strings by the Sea without assistance. The 50% Work Scholarship reduces the tuition for a Full-Day camper to $185 and for a Half-Day camper to $105, regardless of whether the camper applying for the scholarship would be eligible for the family discount.

The work for these scholarships can be done in a variety of jobs, and families are welcome to choose the work that suits them best. Our greatest need by far is for help setting up camp on Saturday, July 31 at 10:00 a.m., and for help after the Pizza Party on Friday, August 6, with moving music stands, chairs, and tables to their original classroom locations. Older children, as well as parents, are welcome helpers during these times. In addition, we need parents to help with crafts and sports stations during the lunch hour, and parents to walk the hallways to make sure that all students find their way to classes. Our Camp Manager often needs a parent helper for various tasks.

Special Circumstance Full Tuition Work Scholarship
Need-based full tuition work scholarships providing up to 100% of the tuition are available to families whose children would not be able to attend Strings by the Sea without this assistance. If families are able to make a contribution of any amount, this helps us extend our scholarships to more families in need. Viola Work Scholarships
Strings by the Sea is pleased to offer viola scholarships for 2010. Tuition for all violas will be $100. The $100 tuition applies to Full-Day Campers, Half-Day Campers, and Family Discount Campers (both Full and Half-Day). The Viola Work Scholarships are not based on need. The requirements are:

  1. The student must have had a minimum of five months of private Suzuki viola lessons before August 2, 2010.
  2. At the time of enrollment, Strings by the Sea must receive an email from the student's Suzuki viola teacher, recommending the student for a Viola Work Scholarship, describing the student's level of playing and the length of time the student has studied privately.
  3. Viola Work Scholarship students may be exclusively studying viola, or they may be violin students who are also studying viola.

If a student plays violin and viola, is receiving a viola scholarship, and wishes to play both violin and viola at Strings by the Sea, please indicate this on the enrollment form. It may be possible to play both instruments, depending on camp needs, and at the discretion of the Camp Directors.

Please email us at Info@StringsByTheSea.org or call Karla Holland-Moritz (858) 277-7543 or Glen Campbell (619) 287-9826 if you need more information.
